RestoreHer US.America Inc. (RestoreHer) is a policy advocacy reentry organization led by and for justice-involved women of color, based in Georgia. RestoreHer focuses on protecting the dignity, ensuring access to reproductive justice, and restoring the rights of all women directly impacted by the criminal legal system.
The organization utilizes an intersectional approach to address the social determinants of criminalization, inequities, and related trauma through education, leadership, and policy change.
RestoreHer’s mission is to enhance the lives of directly impacted women and work in partnership with those women to end the vicious cycle that leads to the disproportionate mass incarceration of women of color and pregnant people in the United States.

Conference
RestoreHer US.America is focused on improving the conditions of incarceration, ending prison birth, and developing the leadership of system impacted people is hosting its first annual national research conference in September 2022. The focus of the conference is to highlight research and advocacy efforts as they pertain to women and LGBT+ individuals involved in the criminal legal system within the United States. This conference will be the first of its kind utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to share research and collaborate on future research projects of understudied groups. Tentative conference topics include, but are not limited to:
• Differences in sentencing
• Impact of incarceration
• Access to reproductive healthcare (while incarcerated and upon release) • Access to perinatal healthcare and safety
• Juvenile healthcare
• Access to programming and education services
RestoreHer is focused on bridging the gap between academia and system impacted people. It is critical that directly impacted people are given a voice of leadership in academic spheres to ensure ethical and informed research on timely topics. Finally, the findings from projects must amplify the voices of those impacted by a broken system in order to emphasize the importance of participation and provide “real-time” data in future research.
