RestoreHER U.S. America Internship Program
RestoreHER U.S. America is a national nonprofit policy, advocacy, and public education organization committed to advancing justice-impacted women and their families' rights, dignity, bodily integrity, and autonomy. Through community-centered advocacy, research, and strategic partnerships, RestoreHER addresses the unique needs of women, particularly Black women, who are disproportionately impacted by the carceral system. Our work centers on eliminating systemic barriers, promoting reproductive justice, and shaping policy reforms that create pathways for equity and healing.
We are pleased to offer a structured internship program designed for current college students and emerging professionals (Graduate students and/or recent graduates who do not exceed 1 year post-grad) who want to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit and advocacy sector. This program is an introduction to communications and policy and an immersive opportunity to learn how a mission-driven organization operates, mobilizes communities, and advances justice through storytelling, policy, and organizational management.

- Receive mentorship and professional development tailored to their career interests.
- Leave the program with tangible skills, portfolio-ready projects, and a deeper understanding of how grassroots advocacy and nonprofit leadership intersect to drive social change.

Qualifications for candidacy should include:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in public policy, political science, law, social work, sociology, or a related field (or recent graduate with relevant experience)
- Demonstrated interest in criminal justice reform, reproductive justice, or gender equity policy
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible language
- Familiarity with state and/or federal legislative processes preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office Suite; experience with databases or CRM systems a plus
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability and responsiveness to a team
- Professional discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information
- Commitment to RestoreHER’s mission and values of justice, equity, and community empowerment

Communications Intern
Role Overview
Communications Interns will help expand RestoreHER’s digital presence and amplify the voices of justice-impacted women. Interns will learn how to translate advocacy work into engaging content across multiple platforms.
Required interests and/or skills include, but aren’t limited to:
Digital storytelling, nonprofit marketing, advocacy messaging, campaign planning, analytics tracking, and cross-platform communications.
Responsibilities

- Support the development of RestoreHER’s social media strategy across Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and Facebook
- Create content, including graphics, captions, newsletters, press releases, and blog posts
- Monitor analytics and engagement trends to recommend strategies for growth
- Assist with branding and messaging for events, advocacy days, and campaigns
- Help maintain and update the RestoreHER website with current programming and resources
- Research digital media trends in nonprofit communications and apply them to RestoreHER’s strategy
Policy Intern
Role Overview
Policy Interns will work directly with RestoreHER’s leadership to advance our advocacy and legislative priorities. Interns will gain hands-on experience in policy research, coalition engagement, and strategy development related to justice reform, women’s rights, and reproductive equity.
Required interests and/or skills include, but aren’t limited to:
Policy analysis, legislative tracking, advocacy communication, coalition building, strategic planning, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
Policy Interns will work directly with RestoreHER’s leadership to advance our advocacy and legislative priorities. Interns will gain hands-on experience in policy research, coalition engagement, and strategy development related to justice reform, women’s rights, and reproductive equity.
Required interests and/or skills include, but aren’t limited to:
Policy analysis, legislative tracking, advocacy communication, coalition building, strategic planning, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct policy research and legislative tracking at the state and federal levels
- Draft policy briefs, fact sheets, and talking points to support advocacy campaigns
- Assist in preparing materials for meetings with legislators, community partners, and coalition members
- Support coordination for advocacy days, briefings, and community education events
- Monitor and summarize relevant hearings, press conferences, and legislative sessions
- Help draft internal reports, meeting notes, and communications related to policy initiatives
- Collaborate with staff to analyze the impact of proposed legislation and recommend advocacy strategies
Program Details
- Duration: January-March 2026; Interns are expected to commit 10–15 hours per week. Work hours are flexible and can be tailored to class or work commitments.
- Format: Primarily remote, with opportunities for in-person participation at RestoreHER-hosted events, advocacy days, or community engagements (for interns located in or near Metro-Atlanta).
- Training & Onboarding: Full orientation, overview of RestoreHER’s mission and current initiatives, and training on tools such as Google/Microsoft Workspaces, Canva, Zoom, and relevant databases.
- Supervision & Support: Interns will report directly to a RestoreHER team member and will have weekly 1:1 check-ins to review progress, set goals, and provide mentorship.
- Collaboration: Interns will participate in weekly staff meetings, cross-team projects, and have the chance to shadow leadership during strategic discussions.
